The Palma House System is represented by “four houses, one family.” Students are welcomed into one of four multi-grade level Houses, each led by a faculty House Dean and two student House Captains. Each House will have an identifiable name, color, and crest. Students in each House also belong to a smaller group within the House, called House Huddle, which is led by a faculty House Huddle Teacher and two student House Huddle Captains. Generally, students meet four times per week with their House Huddle group. Nearly all activities and events are run through the House System as Houses compete for the annual “Chieftain Cup.”

Mission

The purpose of the House System is to support all aspects of student life and to enhance an inclusive and collaborative community through Palma’s Mission, Philosophy, The Essential Elements and ISOs.

Goals

  • To provide students with opportunity to connect with more faculty members who mentor and support their social and spiritual growth
  • To provide increased leadership opportunities for all students
  • To increase student engagement and school spirit through friendly competition
  • To increase school pride and a culture of community.

The “Chieftain Cup” is awarded annually to the House that accumulates the most points in various events and competitions that meet Palma’s ISOs.

Campus Ministry

Campus Ministry challenges students to deepen their faith, enliven liturgy and prayer, serve our local community, and be caretakers of the world around us. Campus Ministry is vital for creating and empowering faith-based student leaders.

Onboarding

New Students

New students are placed into their houses using a randomized approach while giving same house consideration to immediate family members. Students will receive their House assignment during class orientation on August 12th, in which students meet their House Dean, receive some House swag, and meet other incoming members of their House! Students will remain in their Houses for their entire time at Palma. Change requests are allowed under extenuating circumstances.

Mid-Year Transfer Students

The Admission Director notifies the House Director of new transfer students. The House Director then places the student in a House based on the House Huddle group’s capacity. A welcome message is sent to the new student and his or her parents. The Director will notify the House Dean and House Huddle Teacher via email of the incoming student.

New Teachers

The Vice Principal will notify the House Director of new teachers. The House Director will sort teachers based on House Huddle capacity and needs.
